Alexandre Lacazette

France boss Didier Deschamps has this evening spoken out over his decision to leave Alexandre Lacazette out of his latest squad.

France’s road ahead

Les Bleus are set for a trio of outings over the early weeks of next month.

The World Cup champions will first welcome Bolivia to the Stade de la Beaujoire for a friendly meeting on the 2nd of June.

They will then travel to Konya in Turkey for a European Championship qualifier with Şenol Güneş’ men the following weekend.

And France will round out their upcoming international commitments with a trip to Andorra for another European qualifier on the 11th.

Giroud in/Lacazette out

As such, Didier Deschamps’ star-studded 24-man squad was this afternoon announced, with the likes of Paul Pogba, Antoine Griezmann, Kylian Mbappe and Olivier Giroud included.

Missing out, however, were Premier League duo Aymeric Laporte and Alexandre Lacazette:

‘I had a choice to make and I chose Wissam’

Arsenal hitman Lacazette, who was recently named the Gunners’ Player of the Season, lost out to Sevilla hitman Wissam Ben Yedder, with Didier Deschamps’ insistence on omitting the former from his squads having this evening been called into question during a press conference.

Les Bleus’ boss, though, was keen to ensure that it is nothing personal:

‘There’s no reason for us not to see him again.’

‘I had a difficult choice to make, with Ben Yedder coming out of a big season too.’

‘You have the right to have a preference for Alexandre, like others have for Wissam. ‘I had a choice to make and I chose Wissam.’

‘He has scored 30 goals in all competitions this season. He scored in big games, he knows how to play in alone in attack. He’s named in this group of attackers as another option at one time or another.’
