Barcelona’s Andre Gomes & Everton
25-year-old Portugal international Andre Gomes became a fans’ favourite on loan at Everton in 2018-19.
Gomes played 27 times for Everton in the Premier League, scoring once and contributing one assist.
It’s been reported that Everton are now looking to sign Gomes on a permanent basis.
However, West Ham have now made their move for the Iberian.
West Ham bid £18m for Andre Gomes
As confirmed in the Sunday Times, West Ham have lodged an £18m bid for Andre Gomes with Barcelona.
Will that be enough to convince the Catalans to sell? That seems unlikely. The Times report:
Barca value Gomes – who is under contract to the Liga champions until 2021 – at around twice West Ham’s bid.
The Catalan club Barca acquired Gomes from Valencia in 2016 for an initial transfer fee of €35m plus €20m in performance-related variables (currently £30.8m plus £17.6m).
The sense is that West Ham will have to significantly up their offer to land Gomes.
Will the @FCBarcelona midfielder stay at Goodison Park?
“He is getting better every time, taking his responsibility in the squad is important for me as well.”

What’s happened to Tottenham?
In the past Tottenham have also been linked to Gomes.
However, the Sunday Times believe Mauricio Pochettino is now looking elsewhere when it comes to possible midfield recruits:
Tottenham have also been credited with an interest in taking Gomes from Barcelona, and have been planning to add two technically gifted central midfielders to their squad in the summer window.
The Champions League finalists are already in negotiations with Real Betis over the transfer of Argentina international Giovani Lo Celso.
The problem for Tottenham when it comes to signing Lo Celso is the price tag. The 23-year-old has a reported €100m release clause.
Will Daniel Levy sanction such a huge outlay on one player?
Lo Celso scored nine goals and chipped in with five assists in 32 La Liga matches in 2018-19.
